2008 - 2009 Theme - The Wisdom
of our Elders
The
history of Arizona is as wide and diverse as the landscape. From
the five C's of Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus and Climate to the
many cultures of our state - there are a wealth of stories just
waiting to be told.
The keepers of these stories are the grandparents
and elders in our diverse communities who witnessed and participated
in the transformation of Arizona during the twentieth century. This
year the iCademy Video and Photography Program seeks to crete a quilt
of personal Arizona stories that create a unique perspective on Arizona
history.
Digital Story
The digital story category is for teams of 2 - 5 students. The teams
research the history of their community, neighborhood, culture, etc,
and identify key individuals (grandparents or community members)
that can provide first hand accounts of the Arizona of the 20th century.
Students develop questions, interview the individual, collect or
take pictures, and edit the pieces into a short 3 - 5 minute multimedia
piece. The final product can be an AVI. MPG, Quicktime movie or an
enhanced podcast.
Photo Journalism
The photo journalism program is for individual students. Individual
students research the history of their community, neighborhood, culture,
etc, and identify key individuals (grandparents or community members)
or places that tell a tale about life in the Arizona of the 20th
century. The final product is a photograph of an individual or place
that tells a story about Arizona history. The picture is accompanies
by an original essay of less than 650 words.
